Best Ramen in Singapore

The Japanese Ramen scene in Singapore has definitely changed for past decade. When ramen started locally initially, there isn’t much talk over it and the choices aren’t abundant. However, things started to change especially in recent years (3-4 years ago). Singapore starts to enjoy its super-fast growth we can see many foreign players in terms of F&B entering our local market. Likewise, Ramen eateries start to appear everywhere with their own unique selling point. Finally, after more than 6 months, I have tried 11 Ramen stores in Singapore. Some are good and some are so-so.

Sik Wai Sin Eating House-HK Style Cze Char

Geylang! Geylang! It’s the notorious red light district in Singapore. Besides, being the place for registered brothel, Geylang has many other more to offer.  Many shophouse from the 50s still remain in this modern day, providing a great nostalgic view against this concrete jungle. It offers great resources for people who wish to know the architecture in the early days of Singapore. Most importantly, Geylang is the place where you can get many good foods that are still prepared traditionally on this ever changing landscape.

Pepenero – Fine Italian dining

This is an invitation.

Mentioning the word “Fine Dining”, one would think of French food and images such as onion soup and Duck Confit starts to appear on our minds. Without a doubt, I used to belong to this group until my perception changed recently. I was invited by Ms. Amy (one of the co-owner) to Pepenero, a semi fine-dining Italian restaurant in CBD. Pepenero means black pepper in Italian. Thanks to her and I get to understand Italian cuisines better.

Bella - Indeed it is a fine restaurant that serve lovely food with love and passion in cooking each dish.
Had a girls nite out sometime ago at pepenero n we were all full of praised on the black ink pasta sautéed in lightly tossed chilled tomatoe sauce…
Cream of broccoli with scallop and a touch of truffle oil was beautiful …
Deep fry mixed seafood was also to die for… Squids were cooked to perfection. Soft n tender that easily melt away as well as the soft shell crab that slowly dissappeared with my each chew and satisfaction .

Panfried sea bass with herb crust was nicely done. Crispy on the skin while the rest were soft and moist . The taste of basil, parsley n lightly flavor pistachios on the skin was a good combination…

Love the dinner outing and will definitely look forward to the next visit.

Bravo !

The next Fusion Nasi Lemak in the making-The Wok & Barrel

Nasi Lemak (also known as Coconut milk and pandan leaf rice) is originally a Muslim dish. Traditionally, the coconut milk rice is wrapped with pandan leaves with a platter of ikan bilis (fried anchovies), fried fish, sliced cucumbers, sliced egg and hot spicy chili. It is a popular dish beloved by all races in both Singapore and Malaysia and often serves as a breakfast meal for past few decades. In today’s world, we see many versions and twists (mainly the Malay and the Chinese) to this popular dish such as beef, mutton and chicken are used to replace the fried fish.
